The Arc is a membership association made up primarily of volunteer consumer and family members. The original name of our association was, "The Association for Retarded Children". Several years later the name was changed to "The Association for Retarded Citizens" to reflect a broader range of our constituency. During the decade of the 1990's people with disabilities began to demand they be referred to first as people and that though they may live with their disability, they are NOT their disability. Now a days our association is known mostly throughout the nation simply as The Arc of ... . Therefore we are, The Arc of California. Current Activity |
